According to Tuttosport via Calciomercato.com, in August Inter made a serious attempt to sign 27-year-old German midfielder Mario Gotze from Borussia Dortmund. The player, who scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final against Argentina, has been with the Bundesliga side since 2016 after a three-year stint with Bavarian giants Bayern Munich. New Nerazzurri coach Antonio Conte worked hard during the transfer window alongside Inter CEO Beppe Marotta to strengthen the side as much as possible.
