Player ratings: Napoli 4 – 1 Inter, Ruiz the star of the show as Inter made to wait for Champions League spot | English News

19 May at 22:35

Napoli defeated Inter 4 – 1 at the San Paolo which means the Milanese club will have to wait until the final game of the season to secure Champions League football.

Zieliński’s long range strike meant Napoli lead at half time, however a second half header from Mertens and a double from Fabin Ruiz meant that Napoli would leave with all 3 points.

Inter face Empoli at San Siro next weekend knowing a win will secure Champions League football for the second year in a row.

 Napoli

4-4-2

Karnezis 6.5 – Had a quiet game but did well when required.

Ghoulam 6.5 – Solid showing although, like Malcuit, he was tested little by Inter.

Koulibaly 7.5 – Booked early on for a challenge on Politano but he didn’t let it affect his game. Denied Lautaro with a great goal-line clearance. Good showing.

Albiol 7– Relatively untested throughout tonight.

Malcuit 6.5 – Had little to do defensively but got forward well.

Zieliński 7 – Opened the scoring with cracking long-range strike.

Ruiz 8 – Was able to run the midfield with relative ease. Got Napoli’s third and fourth.

Allan 6.5 – Celebrated his call up for the Copa America with a classy showing, outplaying the Inter midfield.

Callejón 6.5 – Assisted Mertens with a lovely cross that lead to Napoli’s second.

Mertens 7 – His usual buzzing self, popping up all over the attacking third causing Inter’s defence problems. Scored Napoli’s second with a neat header.

Milik 6 – Was a constant threat all night, it was his hard work that lead to the third.

SUBS: Insigne (75’) Younes (79’) Luperto (85’)

Inter

4-2-3-1

Handanović  6 – Was let down by his defence tonight. Little he could with the first two, however, might feel he could have done more with the third and fourth.

D’Ambrosio 5 – Failed to link up well with Perišić going forward.

Miranda 5.5  – Hot and cold from Miranda. Defended well at times but was prone to switching off.

Škriniar 6 – A bright light for Inter when others around him were poor.

Asamoah 5  – Started well but like the rest of Inter’s defence, he crumbled.

Brozović 6 – Poor first half, better second. Had more urgency about him.

Gagliardini 5 – Struggled to impose himself on the midfield.

Nainggolan 6 – Looked a little off the pace. Could have closed Zieliński down a little quicker before the game’s first goal.

Politano 5.5 – Didn’t have the best of games and only lasted until half time.

Perišić 5.5 – Defended well but couldn’t offer much going forward.

Lautaro 6 – Starved of service first half. Had one headed off the line and hit the bar in the second. The introduction of Icardi livened him up.

SUBS:

Icardi (45’) 6.5 – Brought on to try and give Inter some cutting edge up front. Pulled one back from the spot.

Vecino (56’) N/A

Candreva (79’) N/A
