PSG 1-3 Man Utd: Solskjaer’s men sensationally through after late VAR controversy

Manchester United are sensationally through to the Champions League quarter-finals after a spirited performance saw them win 3-1 on the night in Paris to go through on away goals.

It was a perfect start for Manchester United as Romelu Lukaku intercepted Thilo Kehrer’s poor ball back, and took the ball past Gianluigi Buffon to slot home and give the visitors an early lead.

PSG soon refound their composure and immediately began to dominate, and the pressure told as Juan Bernat drifted in unmarked for a tap-in from Kylian Mbappe’s low driven cross. After 34 minutes, Manchester United regained the lead after Buffon spilled a speculative 30-yard Marcus Rashford effort, and Lukaku was switched-on enough to score his second.

The second-half drifted as Solskjaer’s side grew visibly tired. Mbappe missed a chance, through on goal, to kill the tie late on. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer threw on teenage academy products Tahith Chong and Mason Greenwood in the final ten minutes as they looked for the vital third goal, but it didn’t look like it was coming until the most controversial of VAR calls deemed that a Diogo Dalot shot struck Presnel Kimpembe’s arm.

Marcus Rashford stepped up to smash the penalty home and send them through.
