Confirmed dates for Liverpool’s Champions League fixtures

Liverpool and UEFA have confirmed the dates for the Champions League group stages, where the Reds will face Napoli, FC Salzburg and Genk.

Jurgen Klopp‘s side will travel to Italy, Austria and Belgium as they bid to retain the European Cup.

They will open their campaign with a trip to face Napoli, where they’ll be seeking to avenge last season’s 1-0 defeat in Italy.

That means it’s four away games in a row, with trips to Chelsea (Premier League), MK Dons (League Cup) and Sheffield United (Premier League) following.

The Reds’ first home game is against FC Salzburg on October 2.

There’s then back-to-back games against Genk, first away then at Anfield.

Following that it’s Napoli at home, before finishing up the group away to Salzburg.

It would be nice if by the time of that trip to Salzburg qualification from the group was assured, and therefore open the opportunity to rest some key players ahead of what will be a very busy festive run.

Matchday 1 vs. Napoli (a): September 17
Matchday 2 vs. Salzburg (h): October 2
Matchday 3 vs. Genk (a): October 23
Matchday 4 vs. Genk (h): November 5
Matchday 5 vs. Napoli (h): November 27
Matchday 6 vs. Salzburg (a): December 10 (5.55pm UK)
