Jordan Henderson marks Champions League triumph with a brilliant new tattoo

Jordan Henderson has ensured the Champions League will stay with him forever, after celebrating Liverpool’s sixth European Cup triumph with a new tattoo.

Henderson is the fifth Reds captain to lift the European Cup, joining Emlyn Hughes, Phil Thompson, Graeme Souness and Steven Gerrard with the honour in Madrid.

Triumph over Tottenham in June capped the end of an impressive season for Liverpool, and one of revival for the 29-year-old who has overcome widespread scrutiny to reach the pinnacle of continental football.

Unsurprisingly, it is a night Henderson will struggle to forget, but the midfielder has guaranteed that won’t be the case during his holiday in the United States.

Tattoo artist Tommy Montoya shared a photo of Instagram of him and Henderson, along with a close-up of his new ink: the European Cup, with the date of this year’s final, on his left thigh:

“Congratulations to the champs, Liverpool and Jordan Henderson,” Montoya wrote. “Even at the top he remains humble.”

Humility is certainly a key attribute for Henderson, whose team-first attitude has gained his plaudits from team-mates over the years.

One of those is Gerrard himself, who told the club’s official website “there is no better professional than Jordan,” and his success comes as “you get out of this game what you put in.”

“How could I be jealous of Jordan lifting the trophy? He’s my mate,” he said.

“I am tight with Jordan and we played together for many years with Liverpool and England.

“I was delighted for him and it was so deserved, there is no better professional than Jordan.

“You get out of this game what you put in, so if you go on that then he certainly deserves it.”

Henderson is expected to report back for pre-season training on July 6, with Liverpool’s first warmup friendly of the summer coming at Tranmere on July 11.
