Klopp ‘respects’ Spurs over their zero transfers policy

Date published: Friday 29th March 2019 2:35

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he has “respect” for Tottenham’s transfer policy ahead of their match at Anfield on Sunday.

Spurs haven’t made a single signing in each of their last two transfer windows, much to the annoyance of some of their fans.

Despite that, Tottenham were clinging onto the coat-tails of the Premier League’s top two until fairly recently – but they now find themselves in a battle to stay in the top four.

Following a run of three losses and a draw in their last four matches, Mauricio Pochettino’s men are only one point above fourth-placed Arsenal and three points ahead of fifth-placed Manchester United.

And Klopp reckons Pochettino would have “liked” to spend in the transfer window but the Liverpool boss understands why Spurs might have to “save a little bit of money”.

“In the country of transfers, if you don’t do transfers then that’s a really big headline,” Klopp told reporters ahead of the match.

“I’m sure Mauricio would have liked to have added but the players you have you can improve as well. Maybe they are better than the boy you wanted to buy.

“I respect their way a lot. At the end we all have to make our own decisions.

“They had to pay the stadium by themselves right? Nobody knows? So you have to save a little bit of money.”
