Solskjaer talks up Manchester United’s performance after defeat to Wolves

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised his team’s performance after they lost 2-1 to Wolves.

His team endured another nightmare trip to Molineux, suffering their third defeat in the last four matches, two of which have come against Wolves.

It is just 17 days since the Norwegian caretaker manager bemoaned the “poorest performance” of his reign, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side deservedly reaching the FA Cup semi-finals at United’s expense.

The visitors started their Molineux return well but wasted a number of chances either side of Scott McTominay’s superb first goal for the club, allowing Diogo Jota to level before Ashley Young became the recipient of Mike Dean’s 100th Premier League red card after clattering into Jota to get his second yellow.

“It’s one of those days where we’ve done more than enough to score three or four goals,” said Solskjaer, speaking to Sky Sports after the match. “Some great chances and some fantastic saves by the keeper [Rui Patricio]”

“Wolves deserve credit, because they scored goals when they pounced upon our mistakes. I thought the lads played well today. We created chances, with ten men as well.”

“They scored with their first chance after the sending off. That’s about 20, 25 minutes after the sending off. The boys have done exactly what they should do but we conceded goals after sloppy mistakes and we didn’t score ourselves.”

“If I’m not mistaken, their goalkeeper made three or four really great saves so we’ve done enough to win this game, but then again you don’t always get what you deserve.”

Manchester United have six Premier League games left to play and sit fifth in the table.

They’re two points behind Arsenal, while Tottenham are in front on goal difference, but Pochettino’s men could move further ahead if they win their first game at the new White Hart Lane against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
