Nuremberg 1-1 Bayern Munich: Champions draw to give Borussia Dortmund hope

Tim Leibold missed an injury-time penalty – the fourth spot-kick Nuremberg have missed from six attempts in the Bundesliga this season

Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich drew with Nuremberg to give Borussia Dortmund hope in the title race, but it could have been worse as the struggling hosts missed a last-minute penalty.

Niko Kovac’s side went behind in the Bavarian derby to Matheus Pereira’s goal from 18 yards after Sven Ulreich parried Eduard Lowen’s shot.

Bayern equalised when Serge Gnabry shinned Kingsley Coman’s cross over keeper Christian Mathenia.

But Tim Leibold missed a late penalty.

His kick in injury-time struck the inside of the post after Bayern’s Alphonso Davies had fouled Georg Margreitter in the air.

Teenage Canadian Davis then missed a glorious chance to win the game as he ran in one-on-one from the halfway line, only to be denied by Mathenia.

Nuremberg’s goalkeeper had a stunning performance as he tipped David Alaba and James Rodriguez free-kicks onto the crossbar.

Bayern, seeking a seventh consecutive title, are two points above Dortmund, who lost 4-2 to Schalke on Saturday, with three games remaining. That result led to Dortmund manager Lucien Favre conceding the title.

Nuremberg, meanwhile, are in the relegation zone, five points adrift of safety.

Kick-off in the second half was delayed when the referee took the players off the pitch as flares went off in Bayern end – but the game was able to restart when the smoke disappeared.
