Manager Phil Neville says he told Fran Kirby and Carly Telford that their mothers would looking down on them and would be proud after England’s 1-0 win over Argentina in the Women’s World Cup.
Neville was seen comforting Kirby after the final whistle on what would have been her mother’s birthday, she died suddenly when Kirby was only 14.
Telford lost her own mother to cancer in 2018 and was handed her first World Cup appearance by Neville in the match in Le Havre.
