Jurgen Klopp urges Liverpool to use their good position into final stretch of the season

Jurgen Klopp remains frustrated that Liverpool didn’t beat Man United at the weekend but says the Reds must now be empowered by the fact they are top.

A missed opportunity to record an all-too-rare win at Old Trafford was passed up, with Liverpool recording a 0-0 draw on Sunday.

Even so, the point was enough to take Klopp’s team back to the top of the Premier League table with just 11 matches left to play.

The boss admits he’s fine with taking a point from a tough away game, but it could and should have been more.

Further games now lie in waiting though and Klopp told LiverpoolFC.com that the Reds have to seize the opportunity they’ve given themselves, starting on Wednesday.

“Absolutely [it could be a valuable point]. That’s completely OK.

“Just, I don’t want to close my eyes to the situation, because if United are beatable on the day, you have to do it – and we didn’t. So that’s still [in my thoughts] somewhere.

“But of course I’m fine with the point. Let’s carry on. There was so much talk about the game again, like Bayern – world-class teams. Now we didn’t score twice against world-class teams, that happened to a lot of other teams as well.

“The situation is like it is. In the table we are in a very good position and now we have to make sure we use that on the pitch.

“It was a difficult game. I still think we should have done better, 100 per cent. We will work on that.

“We don’t have a lot of time [to prepare] for the Watford game but we play at home and hopefully our people will help us.”

The Reds face Watford at the same time as Man City play hosts to West Ham, so a win will of course be necessary to remain top of the pile.

Klopp will, therefore, hope to have a few players return to top form after a poor showing at Old Trafford, including top scorer Mohamed Salah who has so frequently found goals against the Hornets.

At the other end of the pitch, two clean sheets against big-name opponents should restore faith that the defensive aspect of the team remains on track, after an up-and-down January saw them ship eight goals across five games in all competitions.

The Old Trafford draw does leave Liverpool top—now, as Klopp says, it’s time to utilise that position and reinforce it by getting back to winning ways.
