Roberto Firmino “will be fine” for the Champions League final confirms Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Roberto Firmino “will be fine” to take part in the Champions League final, with Liverpool preparing to take on Tottenham.

The Reds head to Madrid this week for their second consecutive final, looking to put their 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid last year behind them and bring home No. 6.

With three weeks between the last game of the Premier League campaign and the final on Saturday night, Liverpool have been afforded time to recover and ready themselves.

This has provided Firmino a period of rehabilitation, following a groin injury that kept him out of the last four games, and he returned to training last week in Marbella.

Speaking at the club’s media day at Melwood, Klopp said the striker will be fit to feature against Spurs, as the medical staff monitor his progress.

“Bobby was part of training last week, looked really good, everything fine,” he told reporters.

“Then we took him out again, and he will be in training from tomorrow again.

“So far all looked really good and he will be fine, I’m pretty sure.”

Klopp added that there is “no chance” of Naby Keita returning, “but we will see how it will work out for him in the Africa Cup of Nations,” as he is “progressing well.”

The manager reflected on the “pure excitement” within his squad ahead of the final, as they aim to respond to their setback in Kyiv in 2018.

“We are all very excited to have the chance again,” he added.

“Last year we played it, so yes we are probably more experienced than the other team but that doesn’t make much difference.

“It’s pure excitement at the moment, we wanted this chance [after last year].”
