Inter seemingly hinted Mauro Icardi was losing their captaincy only the night before.
Inter made the shock announcement on Wednesday morning, but it was preceded by their Spanish Twitter account posting a photo that saw Icardi give the captain’s armband to Lautaro Martinez with the word ‘soon’.
Although the tweet was later deleted, it appeared to be foresight on the Nerazzurri’s part.
Veteran goalkeeper Samir Handanovic has since been confirmed as the club’s new skipper.
