Real racism lies with football authorities – Vincent Kompany

Kompany and Lukaku helped Belgium reach the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia

The lack of diversity in football organisations is part of the problem in tackling racism, says former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany.

Kompany made the point after Belgium compatriot Romelu Lukaku was racially abused by Cagliari fans while playing for Inter Milan.

Lukaku said the game is “going backwards” in the wake of the abuse.

“Romelu is a victim of something disgraceful not just in football, but also in society,” said Kompany.
