Liverpool’s imperious form continued on Saturday, with their 3-1 win over Newcastle producing some interesting statistics.
On what was a potentially significant day in the Premier League title race, the Reds found themselves five points clear at the top, following Man City‘s shock defeat at Norwich.
Earlier in the afternoon, Liverpool saw off Newcastle with ease, despite falling behind to Jetro Willems’ impressive opener.
Sadio Mane netted twice and Mohamed Salah completed the scoring, as Jurgen Klopp‘s men again outlined their title credentials.

Mane’s Stunning Run Continues
Mane was again a star performer for Liverpool, proving why he is as dangerous as any left-sided player in the world on current form.
The Senegalese’s influence is summed up by the fact that he is now unbeaten in 51 games at Anfield, although one of those was in a Southampton shirt.
Mane completing his half-century for Liverpool on Saturday means he is the first player in Premier League history not to taste a home defeat in 50 games.
He is a remarkable player, pulling well clear of Salah (41), Alex (41), Jaap Stam (40) and Arjen Robben (35) in the process.
Klopp Sets New Record
Speaking of unbeaten runs, Klopp is at it as well.
The 52-year-old continues to mastermind a legendary period at Anfield, hopefully culminating in title glory sooner or later.
Saturday’s victory over Newcastle means Liverpool now haven’t lost in 22 league games – the best run under Klopp, dating back to the 2-1 loss at City in January.
It’s also 14 wins in a row in the league – they have scored at least twice in every match – which is a quite remarkable run, proving why this team is arguably the best in Reds history.
Robertson Registers First Assist
Andy Robertson hasn’t quite hit top gear yet this season, with Scotland fans even criticising his performances at international level.
The 25-year-old was excellent on Saturday, however, making rampaging runs down the left flank and proving to be a huge influence.
Robertson laid-on an assist for Mane’s first goal, following some typically tenacious work, which was his first of the season.
He was an assist machine in 2018/19 and this could kick him into gear.
Liverpool Thrive Against Newcastle Yet Again
Newcastle have a dismal record at Anfield, not winning there since Liverpool legend Kevin Keegan masterminded a victory back in 1994.
For a short period on Saturday, it looked like a shock may be on the cards, but the Reds again sent the away fans home miserable.
The win was Liverpool’s 20th at home to the Magpies in the Premier League, meaning they have picked up more Anfield victories against them than any other team in the competition’s history.
On top of that, the three goals mean the Merseysiders have now scored 101 times against Newcastle since the Premier League‘s inception in 1992.
Half-Century for Oxlade-Chamberlain
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made just his second league start in 17 months, as he works his way back to full fitness.
The 26-year-old found it tough in the first half, but showed far more vibrancy after the break, breaking the lines in midfield and looking a threat.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s start earned him his 50th appearance for Liverpool – surprisingly few, before remembering how lengthy his injury absence was.
Hopefully, this is just the first of many appearance milestones he enjoys at Anfield.
