Karl Toko Ekambi celebrates scoring goal for Villarreal vs Barcelona

Villarreal drew 4-4 with Barcelona in an incredible game in La Liga on Tuesday night – and the hosts’ second goal scored by Karl Toko Ekambi will live long in the memory.

Barcelona left Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique and Ivan Rakitic on the bench for the trip to El Madrigal but were 2-0 up after just 16 minutes courtesy of goals from Philippe Coutinho and Malcom.

Samuel Chukwueze reduced the deficit seven minutes later, but still, chasing their eighth straight win in all competitions, few would have expected Barça to capitulate from that position.

But Ekambi levelled things up in the 50th minute, and not even the introduction of Messi in the 61st minute could swing the pendulum back in the visitors’ favour.

In fact, Villarreal took the lead just a minute later through Vicente Iborra before Carlos Bacca incredibly scored again on 80 to make it 4-2.

But then Álvaro González was sent off for the Yellow Submarine and suddenly the pendulum did swing as Messi pulled one back in the last minute before Luis Suarez stuck again the third minute of stoppage time to finish off a hugely entertaining evening.

Ekambi’s goal in particular will be hard to forget, mainly because you’ll have to watch it so many times to work out exactly what happened…
